FROM PROMISE TO POSSESSION: WHAT TO DO WHEN YOUR KINGDOM CALLING FEELS LIKE A BATTLE

We love to talk about calling like it’s something peaceful and poetic. And yes—there are moments of divine alignment and beautiful confirmation. But anyone who’s truly stepped into their Kingdom assignment knows the truth:

It’s not passive. It’s a battle.

When God entrusts you with influence—whether in business, ministry, creativity, motherhood, leadership, or any other space—it comes with the responsibility to take ground. That doesn’t happen by standing still or simply waiting for things to line up.

It means pushing through resistance. It means confronting fear. It means advancing into territory God has assigned to you, knowing full well the enemy will try to stop you and refusing to let him claim ground.

The Call to Take Territory

When Joshua led the Israelites into the Promised Land, it wasn’t really the peaceful transition they had expected.  It was a call to war—to drive out the enemies, defeat the giants that had taken up residence, establish order, and occupy the land with purpose. The promise was guaranteed. The possession was not. They had to take action. Fight battles. Trust God daily. Not exactly a case of just crossing over and admiring the view.

Sure, the promise had been given. The territory has been marked out. But strategy had to be sought, and their trust in God had to become more than a theory—it had to become their posture.

The same is true for us and the territory God gives us to possess and occupy...

If God has spoken to you about a book to write, a business to build, a message to share, a vision to pursue, or a community to reach, know this: unless He tells you to wait, you're not meant to sit on it. You're meant to steward it, multiply it, and advance the Kingdom through it. When you do, it won't always feel easy, but the presence of resistance doesn’t mean you missed it. Far from it!

I see too many Christian women being ambushed by spiritual opposition and thinking it’s a sign to back off. But more often than not, it’s the very evidence that you’re in the right place, heading in the right direction. It may actually be the clearest confirmation that you’re walking exactly where you need to be.

Why the Resistance Feels Personal

As soon as you step into something sacred, resistance shows up, and the opposition can feel strangely personal. Self-doubt creeps in. You second-guess yourself. Delay sets in. Doors seem to close. Criticism or comparison whispers. But, that's when it's vital we remember that spiritual warfare often comes dressed as discouragement.

The enemy wants you distracted, doubting, and disengaged—because if he can’t stop God’s call on your life, he’ll try to convince you to abandon it yourself. Maybe you can relate more than you'd like to admit? We've all been there, and this is NOT your time to retreat or give up. Your calling won’t just be handed to you—you’ll have to contend for it.

That doesn’t mean striving in your own strength or forcing open doors. It means staying deeply connected to the Holy Spirit, walking in obedience, and being prepared to stand your ground. We’re told in Ephesians 6 to “put on the full armour of God”—not to avoid the battle, but to stand through it. The reality is, that kind of standing takes clarity, conviction, and endurance. It takes active resistance against the enemy who comes to steal, kill, and destroy.

This Is What Occupation Looks Like

God didn’t just call you to receive a dream. He called you to carry it forward. To take your seat at the table you’ve been called to. To plant your feet firmly in the space God assigned you. To rise up in spiritual authority and take responsibility for the territory that's been marked out for you. To show up with faith, even when it’s costly. To build what He asked, even when the outcome is uncertain.

Because this is what Kingdom calling looks like: It’s forward-moving. It’s faith-fuelled. It’s fiercely opposed. And it’s worth every battle.

That might mean:

  • Launching the project when you feel unprepared and you’d rather wait

  • Leading when you’d rather shrink back or blend in

  • Praying bold prayers when fear says play safe

  • Staying consistent when motivation wears thin

  • Continuing when the breakthrough hasn’t arrived, or results haven't yet caught up to obedience

This is what Kingdom calling looks like. Not because it’s glamorous, but because it’s God-ordained. And yes—it’s hard. But it’s also holy.

You’re Not Alone in This

If this feels hard, that’s because it is. But you are not doing this in your own strength...

“Not by might, nor by power, but by My Spirit,” says the Lord Almighty. (Zechariah 4:6)

And, you're NOT alone! You have Heaven behind you. You have the Word as your weapon. And you have the Holy Spirit as your guide. So keep showing up. Keep swinging the sword. Keep building what He told you to build.

When it gets heavy, determine to move forward knowing that you’re not in this battle to prove yourself—you’re here to partner with the One who already won the war.

Why? Because calling isn’t passive. It’s a commission. It’s about being willing to take your place, steward what you’ve been given, and advance with purpose.

You’ve already been authorised to take ground, and THIS IS YOUR MOMENT TO RISE AND OCCUPY!
